Surgical Access and Tissue Recontouring

Access Surgery

If you’re suffering from gum disease there are non-surgical procedures that can be performed to prevent further development of diseased gum tissue. However, if you have Periodontitis there could be deep periodontal pockets burrowing around your teeth, which are difficult to address with these non-surgical procedures. If these pockets are left untreated, your gum disease will likely progress and present a risk of supporting bone loss. This is where Dr Anthony Puljich may need to perform access surgery.

Access surgery is performed by our Dr Anthony Puljich and involves folding back the gums to access harmful bacteria in pockets too deep to reach when cleaning from the surface. As the gums are folded back, our periodontist is able to better assess the problem area and construct a course of action for the condition at hand.

At the completion of this procedure, the gum tissue is then repositioned with sutures and the healing process begins.

Gum Recontouring

Gum recontouring may be recommended by our specialists if you have deep periodontal pockets and large periodontal infections. This procedure aims to improve the health and aesthetics of your gum tissue by repositioning your gum line to a more healthy dimension.

Performed by our specialists, gum recontouring will remove excess gum tissue and resculpt your gum line. For patients with periodontitis or receding gums, a gum graft may be required to support the restructuring of your gum line and to protect the exposed dental root.

If you need tissue reconstruction, a consultation with our specialists will provide insight into the procedure needed to ensure the health and aesthetics of your smile.
