A clinical workshop was planned and conducted by the American Academy of Periodontology in collaboration with the European Federation of Periodontology that hypothesised to provide a  classification of peri-implant diseases and conditions for clinicians. The outcome saw focused

questions on the characteristics of peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis, peri-implantitis, and soft- and hard-tissue deficiencies addressed. Areas in which ambiguity has previously existed around the identification, classification and treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions were explored to provide clinicians with a workable diagnostic framework to be applied within context of several potential con-founding factors.
